Attention Disorder, Hyperactivity and Learning Difficulties: Support Through Psychoanalysis

How can we understand difficulties with attention, hyperactivity or learning problems?

These difficulties should not automatically be attributed to a cause related to psychological life.
An appropriate assessment may be necessary to clarify the situation.
Psychoanalysis can then serve as a complementary space to explore the child's experience and the way they live with their difficulties.

Why does my child struggle to concentrate or fail at school despite their abilities?

Fatigue, worries, certain relational difficulties or developmental particularities can influence attention.
It is helpful to observe the situations in which difficulties appear and those in which they are less present.
This observation can help understand the child's experience and their relationship with school and others.
School results do not always reflect a child's abilities.
Emotional, attentional, relational or pedagogical difficulties can interfere with learning.
It is therefore important to avoid too quickly reducing failure to a lack of effort or motivation.

Why does my child no longer want to work?

The refusal to work can be a way of protecting oneself against the fear of failure or the feeling of not being capable.
The more a child feels in difficulty, the more they may seek to avoid situations in which they risk confirming this impression.
Understanding what lies behind the refusal makes it possible to gradually move out of the power struggle.

What role can emotions play in school difficulties?

Emotions can temporarily alter the ability to concentrate, memorise or draw on one's knowledge.
A preoccupied child may therefore encounter greater difficulties.
This does not mean, however, that school difficulties always have an emotional origin. The situation as a whole must be considered.

How can we support a child who feels defined by their difficulties?

A child may gradually come to see themselves as "the one who can't concentrate" or "the one who can't manage."
Psychoanalysis can offer them a space in which they are not reduced to their difficulties.
The work can focus on their experience, their self-image and the way they find their place within their family and at school.

I offer psychoanalytic consultations in Lyon, primarily in person for children, to help them understand their experience without automatically attributing a single cause to their difficulties.

A first meeting allows us to get to know each other, to clarify your request and to see whether a psychoanalytic approach corresponds to your situation and expectations.
